A senior Iranian military officer, Sardar Javad Narenji, has died of injuries sustained during recent hostilities between Iran and Israel, Iranian media report.
Commander Narenji, a senior figure in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and one of the leaders of the 3rd Hamzeh Operational Division based in Urmia, had been wounded during the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran, Caliber.Az reports per IRGC News Channel.
According to state-affiliated sources, he passed away in a hospital hours ago due to the severity of his wounds.
A 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel has come to an uneasy halt, following an intense exchange of missile strikes, drone attacks, and air raids that drew international concern.
The escalation began on June 13, 2025, with an Israeli air campaign targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites. Iran responded with a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones aimed at Israeli infrastructure and population centres.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, at least 610 people were killed and 4,746 wounded, including 49 women and 13 children. On the Israeli side, 28 people were reported dead and over 3,200 injured.
A US-brokered ceasefire, announced on June 24, brought the fighting to a pause, though the situation remains volatile.
While both governments claim to have achieved their objectives, international observers warn that underlying tensions could reignite hostilities.
