Iran says talks with US possible only on “fair and comprehensive” deal
Iran would only accept a “fair and comprehensive agreement” in talks with the United States aimed at ending the war in the Middle East, Abbas Araghchi, the country’s foreign minister, has stated.
After a meeting in Beijing with China’s top diplomat Wang Yi, he said Iran will do everything possible to defend its legitimate rights and interests during the negotiations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Reuters.
US President Donald Trump had earlier proposed to suspend an American operation escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz, an idea presented as an incentive for reaching a deal.
Araghchi did not directly comment on the proposal.
The Strait has been effectively closed since the conflict erupted on February 28 following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran.
The disruption has blocked around 20% of global oil supplies and triggered a global energy crisis.
