Moscow says Georgia should initiate diplomatic rapprochement
Russia says the restoration of diplomatic relations with Georgia is not currently on the agenda, but Moscow remains open to resuming diplomatic engagement if Tbilisi takes the initiative.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made the remarks during a briefing, stressing that any move toward restoring formal diplomatic ties should originate from the Georgian side.
Zakharova recalled that diplomatic relations between Russia and Georgia were severed under then-President Mikheil Saakashvili, following the escalation of tensions between the two countries.
“Accordingly, the initiative to restore diplomatic relations should also come from Georgia. We have repeatedly said that we are open to such a possibility,” Zakharova said.
