Former Romanian consulate in St. Petersburg offered to Azerbaijan
The former premises of Romania’s Consulate General in St. Petersburg have been offered to Azerbaijan as a potential new location for its diplomatic mission in the city.
Vladimir Zapevalov, director general of Inpredservis, a company responsible for servicing foreign diplomatic missions, told Interfax that an official proposal had been sent to the Azerbaijani Consulate General.
“We have already offered them the premises of the former Romanian consulate; I signed the official letter yesterday,” Zapevalov said.
The Romanian consulate was located at 4 Gorokhovaya Street and ceased operations about a month ago.
If the Azerbaijani side accepts the proposal, the premises will undergo renovation before being handed over to Azerbaijan.
Zapevalov said Azerbaijan had previously requested new premises for its consulate in St. Petersburg. The authorities had offered the former Bulgarian Consulate General building on Saperny Lane, but the location was rejected because it did not meet the Azerbaijani side’s space requirements.
The Azerbaijani Consulate General currently operates from 2nd Sovetskaya Street.
