Russian man without legs conquers both peaks of Mount Elbrus
Ufa-born Russian climber Rustam Nabiev, who became the first person in history to climb Mount Everest using only his hands, has reached both summits of Mount Elbrus.
Sharing a post on Instagram, Nabiev announced his achievement, Caliber.Az reports.
The blogger, who lost both legs when a barracks collapsed in Omsk in 2015, completed the challenging “Elbrus Cross” mountaineering route.
“Together with the 7 Summits Club team, I became the first person in the history of Elbrus ascents to complete the full cross from north to south, reaching both the Eastern and Western summits using only my hands,” Nabiev said.
The climber noted that this was his fifth ascent of the mountain, but also the most special one.
In his words, he climbed without using snow groomers or a cable car.
“For me, this was the hardest ascent of Elbrus. I literally had to claw my way up every meter with my hands,” Nabiev added.
The blogger further stressed that his first ascent had shown him that the impossible can become possible.
“I don’t know how many more times this mountain will call me back. But I know one thing: as long as I have the strength, I will keep going,” he concluded.
