Moscow brands Merz “slave” to German military-industrial complex

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is a “slave” to Germany’s military-industrial complex, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sputnik radio.

“He does not simply lobby for them, he serves them. He is a slave, Merz is a slave to the military-industrial complex. Accordingly, more money and more orders are needed so that, so to speak, Merz apparently gets his share as well,” the diplomat said.

Zakharova made the remarks in response to recent comments by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who expressed dissatisfaction with the volume of military orders Ukraine places with German defence companies.

Wadephul had earlier said Germany should benefit from its role as one of Ukraine’s largest providers of financial and military assistance, calling on Kyiv to increase its purchases from the country’s defence industry. He also criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the issue.
