Fuel crisis persists in Russia's capital as gas stations reintroduce limits

19 August 2026 12:49

Gas stations in Moscow, Russia, have once again begun restricting sales of gasoline and diesel fuel, as the fuel crisis persists.

Some Gazprom Neft stations have imposed a limit of up to 40 litres per vehicle and at Tatneft stations, motorists are allowed to purchase no more than 50 litres of gasoline and 60 litres of diesel fuel, Caliber.Az reports, citing Caliber.Az%2Fpost%2Ftoplivnyj-krizis-ne-pokidaet-moskvu" target="_blank" style="color:rgb(53, 152, 219); font-weight:bold">Russian media.

Meanwhile, some gas stations continue to face fuel shortages. On the evening of August 18, AI-95 gasoline was available at only one Neftemagistral station in Moscow.

Some LUKOIL stations also had only part of their fuel range available.

Queues have also formed at gas stations across Moscow.

Russia’s fuel crisis has persisted since late May, with regular Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries among its main causes.

In late July, authorities said the situation was improving and began gradually lifting the restrictions in place.

However, the shortage worsened again in August, prompting fuel sales limits to return.
