Armenian PM wants foreign ministry to handle trade
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has proposed transforming the Ministry of Foreign Affairs into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
The proposal would expand the ministry’s responsibilities to include economic ties, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Government officials said they will continue to pursue a balanced and balancing foreign policy, which has demonstrated its effectiveness by helping stabilise the Republic of Armenia’s external environment.
The Armenian government has unveiled a 2026-2031 state program ahead of debates in parliament.
According to the document, regionalisation plays a key role in balanced and balancing foreign policy, to make it not only possible but also comfortable for the Republic of Armenia to live in its own environment without external support.
“In this regard, the further development of relations with Georgia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Azerbaijan is of key importance,” the program stated.
