Russia, Qatar call for diplomatic solution in Hormuz crisis

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone call on May 5 with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al Thani to discuss the situation in and around the Strait of Hormuz, according to the press release by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“The situation in and around the Strait of Hormuz was discussed. A shared view was expressed on the need to abandon attempts at forceful solutions to the crisis and to unite the efforts of all interested parties to facilitate the achievement of a sustainable long-term settlement, including agreements on measures to ensure the legitimate security interests of all countries of the Persian Gulf and the principles of freedom of navigation,” the ministry said.
