Russia opens terrorism cases after arrests in multiple cities
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said it has detained several individuals in three cities on suspicion of justifying attacks and calling for sabotage, according to a statement from its Public Relations Centre.
The detentions took place in Kingisepp, Chita, and Tomsk. According to the FSB, the suspects are accused of using social media to justify drone attacks and other actions carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as terrorist acts, and of calling for sabotage targeting transport infrastructure in Russia.
Criminal cases have been opened under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code, which covers the public justification of terrorist activity. The FSB did not disclose the number of detainees or provide additional details about them.
In a separate development, the agency said it had also detained suspects in four other cities accused of gathering information on defence industry and transport facilities for potential terrorist attacks.
