VP Yılmaz expresses concern over burning of Turkish flag in Yerevan
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has described the burning of a Turkish flag in Armenia’s capital as a “cause for concern."
Speaking to journalists, Yılmaz said he had raised the issue during a recent visit to Yerevan and discussions with Armenian officials. He noted that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had responded negatively to the incident, while Armenia’s president also described it as unacceptable, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Some time ago [May 4 – ed.] I was in Yerevan and repeatedly raised this issue during discussions. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as you know, reacted negatively to this [the burning of the Turkish flag – ed.. The Armenian president also called the incident unacceptable. In Armenia, there were both those who condemned the incident and those who celebrated it,” Yılmaz said.
The incident occurred on April 23 during a “torchlight procession” in Yerevan, where a Turkish flag was set on fire. The event prompted condemnation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, which described the act as unacceptable.
