Gazprom files lawsuit against Czech gas operator NET4GAS
Gazprom and its subsidiary Gazprom Export have filed a lawsuit against Czech gas pipeline operator NET4GAS in the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, according to Russian media, citing the arbitration case database.
The claim, registered on May 5, relates to an economic dispute under civil law.
The legal action follows an earlier ruling in March 2024, when a Russian arbitration court barred NET4GAS from pursuing proceedings against Gazprom Export in foreign jurisdictions. Under that decision, failure to comply could result in penalties totalling €112.96 million, payable in rubles at the Central Bank of Russia’s exchange rate, as well as 206,000 rubles in state duty costs incurred by Gazprom Export.
Gazprom is seeking to block NET4GAS from continuing arbitration cases abroad after the Czech company attempted to recover payments for the use of its gas transportation system.
