Ukraine launches largest aerial assault on Russian regions, Stavropol bears the brunt
Russia’s air defence systems were activated on an unprecedented scale overnight as Ukrainian forces launched a massive drone offensive targeting multiple regions, with Stavropol experiencing its most significant aerial attack to date.
According to Vladimir Vladimirov, Governor of the Stavropol Krai, 37 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were intercepted and destroyed over the city of Nevinnomyssk in the early hours of the morning, Caliber.Az reports.
In a statement posted on his official Telegram channel, Vladimirov reported that there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the barrage.
"Today, from 2:30 a.m. to 6 a.m., 37 drones were shot down over Nevinnomyssk, according to operational data. This was the most massive attack on the Stavropol region. There were no casualties or injuries," the governor stated.
The Stavropol incident formed part of a wider, coordinated aerial assault across southern and western Russia.
According to official information from the Russian Ministry of Defence, air defence forces successfully intercepted a total of 105 Ukrainian drones overnight.
In addition to the 37 drones downed over Nevinnomyssk, five others were shot down elsewhere in the Stavropol Krai. Other regions hit included the Belgorod region with 26 UAVs intercepted, Bryansk with 25, Rostov with 23, eight over the Krasnodar Krai, and nine over the Azov Sea.
The Russian Ministry of Defence did not report any casualties or significant damage as a result of the attacks, but the scale and coordination of the offensive mark a notable escalation in the use of drone warfare by Ukrainian forces.
