Estonia to upgrade diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan, signaling stronger ties
As part of a visit to Azerbaijan, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna announced a significant development aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations. One of the key outcomes of his trip was the decision to propose to the Estonian government the elevation of Estonia’s diplomatic representation in Baku to the status of a full embassy.
Tsahkna emphasized that this move marks a new chapter in the bilateral relationship, opening the door to enhanced political dialogue, expanded economic cooperation, and deeper people-to-people connections, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“The decision to establish an embassy in Azerbaijan underscores our confidence in the strength of our bilateral ties and our commitment to advancing cooperation to a higher level,” Tsahkna stated. “This upgrade will facilitate an increase in high-level visits and political consultations, while also fostering collaboration in critical sectors such as digital innovation, education, and cultural exchange. Our partnership is founded on mutual respect, trust, and shared values including peace, coordination, and innovation.”
The Foreign Minister also highlighted the robust and friendly nature of Estonia-Azerbaijan relations, describing the outlook for the partnership as both promising and full of potential.
“The opening of the Estonian embassy in Baku will signify a new era in our cooperation, enabling a closer political dialogue and more dynamic engagement across multiple domains,” Tsahkna concluded.
