EU Council approves €4.2 billion in aid to Kyiv

The Council of the European Union has approved the decision previously agreed by the ambassadors to allocate Kyiv financial aid of about 4.2 billion euros from a special fund to support Ukraine.

"Having finalised the written procedure, the council today decided to make the first payment of about €4.2 billion under the Ukraine support fund," the Hungarian presidency of the council said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

"This decision aims to support Ukraine's macro-financial stability and the functioning of its administration," the statement said. Earlier, the European Commission noted that it intended to transfer the tranche to Kyiv by September.
