EU highlight progress in Ukraine talks, call for Russian accountability
European leaders highlighted significant progress in peace negotiations for Ukraine, stressing the need for clear and reliable security guarantees for Kyiv and accountability for Russia in ending hostilities.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on X that there had been “good progress” following a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump, and several European leaders, Caliber.Az reports.

She said Europe is ready to continue working closely with Ukraine and US partners, emphasising that unbreakable security guarantees from day one remain a key element of any potential agreement.
Meanwhile, the Italian government stated that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, along with other European leaders, spoke with Zelenskyy and Trump after their talks in Florida. They discussed the progress of the peace process, security guarantees, and remaining open issues.
European officials agreed that Russia must demonstrate a genuine willingness to negotiate and cease hostilities.
