EU prolongs ambassador’s mandate in Georgia
The mandate of the European Union’s ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, has been extended, according to media reports citing the EU Delegation to Georgia.
Herczyński’s four-year term as EU ambassador had originally been set to expire in September 2026. No further details were immediately provided regarding the duration or terms of the extension.
The diplomat has been a frequent target of criticism from Georgian authorities, who have accused him of interfering in the country’s internal affairs, exerting pressure, spreading disinformation, and acting in the interests of the “Deep State.”
Tensions between the ambassador and the Georgian government have escalated in recent months. Most recently, Herczyński was summoned to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs following remarks that drew criticism from officials.
