EU’s Kallas claims US lags behind Estonia on speech freedoms
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference that the situation regarding freedom of speech in the United States is worse than in Estonia.
Responding to a moderator’s question about criticism from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who accused Europe of worsening problems with free speech, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Kallas noted that she comes from a country ranked second in freedom of speech and found it striking to hear criticism on the issue from a country placed 58th in the same index, without specifying which ranking she meant.
When asked whether her remarks signaled a conflict between Europe and the United States, Kallas rejected that interpretation, saying it merely demonstrated that “the EU and the US are closely interconnected.”
