Russian diplomat: EU taking all measures to extend hostilities in Ukraine

30 October 2024 19:11

Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine in the near future would not be in the EU’s interest.

Zakharova made these remarks during a briefing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

In response to reporters' inquiries, the diplomat commented on a statement by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, who noted that the escalation of the situation in the Middle East has caused the conflict in Ukraine to take a backseat.

Zakharova noted that this should be seen as a candid admission within the EU's destructive policy.

"As for the situation in Ukraine and the resolution of the conflict, I believe this can be seen as another candid admission from Borrell. Indeed, the EU is doing its best to ensure that hostilities do not come to an end; instead, they are intensifying, expanding, and deepening,” she said.

“For this purpose, the EU is supplying weapons, allocating funds to Kyiv, and training Ukrainian fighters. A swift political resolution to the Ukrainian crisis - something Borrell has repeatedly acknowledged - is not in the interests of the current leaders of the Western countries and their US overseers,” she noted.

Zakharova emphasised that the West continues profiting from the deaths of Ukrainians and the destruction of Ukraine.

"The West continues stealing our assets and solving its own problems at the expense of others. This is, in fact, consistent with the traditions of colonialism evolving into neocolonialism," she added.
