Yerevan, Washington to sign strategic partnership agreement

14 January 2025 09:45

Armenia and the United States are set to formalize a strategic partnership agreement on January 14, said the Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan.

She confirmed that the agreement will be signed by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a ceremony in Washington, Caliber.Az reports.

The signing is scheduled to take place at 22:00 Yerevan time and marks a significant step in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The agreement is expected to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, enhancing ties between Armenia and the United States.

Notably, Armenia and the United States have recently been strengthening their bilateral relations, with discussions underway to elevate their cooperation to a strategic partnership.

In June 2024, during the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Dialogue Capstone meeting in Yerevan, both nations agreed to formalize this enhanced relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding, aiming to establish a Strategic Partnership Commission.

This prospective partnership encompasses various areas, including economic collaboration, energy resilience, security, law enforcement, and democratic development. Notably, the United States has expressed support for Armenia's sovereignty, independence, democracy, and territorial integrity, aligning with the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration.

In line with these developments, Armenia and the U.S. conducted joint military exercises named Eagle Partner 2024 from July 15 to 24, focusing on peacekeeping missions.
