Media: Erdoğan to revamp AKP's executive committee ahead of 2028 elections

The executive committee of Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is set to undergo a 60% overhaul as the party prepares for the upcoming 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Erdoğan has already begun assembling a new team for the elections, Caliber.Az reports via Türkiye Gazetesi.

The AKP's position has notably weakened since the municipal elections in March 2024, and Erdoğan himself acknowledged shortcomings in this area, promising to focus on revitalizing the party. The leadership teams in the provinces have already been updated by 70%, while those in the districts have seen a 60% update.

The most significant changes will affect the executive committee, with the composition expected to be revamped by 60%. A final decision on this matter will be announced at the AKP congress in February.

Erdoğan has been in consultations for some time regarding new figures for the executive committee and the party's upper echelons. The lists of candidates include both newcomers and former party officials.

The party is also expected to see a large influx of young politicians, including women, as part of the rejuvenation effort.
