Iran-Russia strategic agreement set for ratification, expected to last two decades
Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali has said that a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran is set to be ratified by the Iranian parliament and will last for 20 years.
"After the agreement is signed, it must be ratified by the Iranian parliament. Once ratified, it will be in effect for 20 years," Jalali stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The ambassador did not clarify whether the agreement includes a provision for automatic renewal after the initial 20-year period.
Earlier, Jalali confirmed that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran covers all areas of bilateral cooperation. The agreement, consisting of 47 articles, was developed over three years through numerous meetings and amendments, he explained.
The deal, which includes trade, economic, energy, defence, and security cooperation, is set to be signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to Moscow on January 17. The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture.
The partnership builds on the long-term agreement established in 2001, extended until 2026, and is expected to govern relations for the next 20 years.
