Iran-Russia strategic treaty contains 47 articles, says envoy
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran covers all areas of bilateral cooperation, said Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.
According to him, the document includes 47 articles, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"We prepared the draft and handed it over to the Russian side. This took about two and a half to three years, with many meetings and discussions, and numerous amendments before an agreement was finally reached," the diplomat said in an interview with the Iranian news agency IRNA.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will visit Moscow on January 17 for the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement and talks with Vladimir Putin. The process of developing the agreement began back in 2014.
According to an Iranian diplomatic source, an important part of the agreement will focus on trade, economic, and energy cooperation, as well as "partnership on defence and security issues."
The agreement is anticipated to enhance collaboration in energy, manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture. Notably, it is expected to outline the framework for cooperation over the next two decades, building upon the long-term cooperation deal established in 2001, which was extended until 2026.
