Armenian politician predicts PM Pashinyan’s resignation in coming months
Hovik Aghazaryan, a former ally of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and former member of the ruling Civil Contract party, has predicted that Pashinyan will resign in the coming months, leading to early parliamentary elections.
Aghazaryan, who until the end of last year was part of Armenia's ruling team, explained that the current external political developments create an environment where early elections could benefit the government, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Aghazaryan argued that such elections would serve Pashinyan’s interests, providing him with a renewed mandate and the opportunity to continue pushing his political agenda.
"These events exist, and not only these. There are other reasons to hold early elections," Aghazaryan emphasized, pointing to a variety of factors that, in his view, align with the government's objectives.
The government's position, however, remains firmly against the idea of early elections. Armenian authorities have repeatedly dismissed opposition claims, insisting that there is no such issue on their agenda.
Pashinyan's administration has maintained that the current political landscape does not necessitate the resignation of the Prime Minister or the need for snap elections.
Aghazaryan, who was once one of Pashinyan's most loyal supporters, was expelled from the ruling party for refusing to comply with Pashinyan’s request to resign his mandate last year. Despite his departure from the political team, Aghazaryan remains vocal in his predictions about the future of Armenian politics.
