Syria’s top officials to visit Türkiye, marking new era in diplomacy
The foreign and defence ministers of Syria, along with the head of intelligence, will embark on an official visit to Ankara, Türkiye on January 15.
This visit is seen as the beginning of a new era in diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Syria. During the visit, officials from both countries will hold key meetings to discuss security issues, border control, and regional cooperation, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The meetings are described as a significant step towards normalising relations between Syria's new administration and Türkiye.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for the lifting of sanctions on Syria in key areas during the international meeting on Syria in Riyadh. Minister Fidan expressed support for expanding the scope of exemptions from anti-Syrian sanctions and lifting them in vital sectors during the meeting, which primarily focused on steps to ensure stability and security in Syria.
He also emphasised the importance of taking systematic and consistent actions to rebuild Syria, without slowing down the pace of implementation. Furthermore, the Turkish foreign minister reiterated that an essential element in achieving Syria's reconstruction is respect for the principle of territorial integrity and unity of the Arab Republic.
