EU to transfer €135 million to Ukraine and Moldova Initially planned for Russia and Belarus
The European Commission has decided to transfer to Ukraine and Moldova €135 million, which were allocated for the period from 2021 to 2027 from the European programmes of Interreg cooperation with Russia and Belarus.
European Commissioner for Development and Reform Elisa Ferrera explained the decision of the European Commission regarding Russia's actions in Ukraine, TASS reports with reference to the press service of the European Commission.
“The decision to cancel the originally envisaged cooperation with Russia and Belarus through our Interreg programmes is the result of the brutal war of Russia against Ukraine. I am glad that the funds we had initially planned for this cooperation will now benefit the EU’s programmes with Ukraine and Moldova. This will help strengthen collaboration between EU regions and local stakeholders with Ukrainian and Moldovan partners,” she said.
Since March 2022, the European Commission has set a course to curtail all contact with Russia and Belarus.
