Europe “cannot survive without Russia”, says presidential envoy
The European Union is already making certain concessions toward Russia in the energy sector in order to ensure its own survival, said Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
Dmitriev made the remarks while speaking to journalists, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Essentially, Europe cannot do without Russia. Russia is necessary for their survival, and amid the energy crisis this is becoming particularly relevant. <...> In order for Europe to overcome this crisis, it needs to find options for partnership with Russia and restore oil and gas flows. The EU is already making a number of concessions on its energy agenda regarding Russia, and we see that they have no other choice but to lift the unlawful ‘price caps’ on Russian oil, which they need for survival. This is an economic fact,” he said.
