Europe maintains military support for Ukraine, French FM says Despite Middle East war
European countries continue to provide military support to Ukraine despite the deployment of US and allied forces to address rising tensions in the Middle East, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said following the first day of the G7 ministers’ meeting in Paris.
Barrot explained that, alongside the United States, countries including France have mobilised military resources "to protect their allies and national interests," even though they are not directly involved in combat operations in the Persian Gulf region. He stressed that European nations remain committed to supporting Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
The minister recalled that for more than four years, warnings of potential crises due to supply disruptions have circulated, but these dire scenarios have not materialised, demonstrating Europe’s ongoing resilience and commitment.
Barrot also underscored the significance of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent visit to Gulf states, noting that it highlights Ukraine’s experience in joint military operations and the importance of continued cooperation with European partners such as Germany and France.
He concluded that Europe’s backing of Ukraine remains steadfast, even as the region adjusts to new security challenges in the Middle East.
