European Commission: Ukraine needs peace through strength
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has said that Ukraine seeks peace through strength, and so do Europe and the US.
Von der Leyen made these remarks at the Munich Security Conference, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Ukraine needs peace through strength. Europe wants peace through strength. US President Donald Trump has made it clear that the US is firmly committed to peace through strength," the politician stated.
In her speech, von der Leyen stressed that Ukraine desires a peaceful resolution to the conflict more than anyone else. She expressed confidence that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through collective efforts.
She noted that the EU intends to expedite Ukraine's accession process, adding that the EU is intensifying its efforts to accelerate Ukraine's EU membership process.
The president of the European Commission mentioned that significant progress has already been made, but emphasized that it is now time for the EU to push forward with even greater determination.
She highlighted the need to increase national budget spending capabilities, secure funding for joint European projects, and accelerate Ukraine's integration, asserting that these should be the objectives of the new Europe.
On February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump spoke over phone for about an hour and a half. The two leaders agreed that the ongoing conflict must come to an end and decided to immediately begin negotiations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed his readiness for dialogue with Putin.
