Ex-Ambassador Sahakyan says Armenia puppet in hands of its authorities

07 October 2023 13:38

"I don't trust these authorities because I don't see with whom the authorities in Armenia discuss and make decisions on foreign policy and state security issues in advance, how these decisions are born. I have an assumption that the decisions are born from outside, we are only ordered," ex-Ambassador Ara Sahakyan said during an interview with the Yerevan-based Hraparak newspaper.

"Nikol Pashinyan is just an executor. When you realise that decisions are being imposed on us, you can't foresee what other crimes are being prepared against us in the offices of the great men of the world. The state systems have been destroyed in Armenia, and I don't know any institute, institution, or body, where scenarios are discussed, where the situation is assessed, and where strategic problems are evaluated. Knowing Nikol Pashinyan's stubborn character, I realise that if he is given something to decide, he does it with an unbalanced state of mind. He does not know how to listen, it is a character trait of a dictator," the former ambassador said, according to Caliber.Az.

According to Ara Sahakyan, in five years Armenia has become a puppet in the hands of its authorities. The style of work of the current government reminds Ara Sahakyan of the Soviet years when the 9-member Foreign Ministry of the Armenian SSR or the government appointed by the Kremlin supposedly discussed security, defence or other serious issues and made decisions. Meanwhile, in reality, everything was decided in the Kremlin.

"Now our Kremlin is somewhere else. Our Kremlin is the White House, whose goals are realised by Euro bureaucrats, and our leaders speak out. There is no independent European foreign policy," Sahakyan said.

Recent processes suggest to Ara Sahakyan that the most important thing for the Armenian authorities in this whole "story" is the money promised by the European Union, i.e. 2.6 billion euros.
