FIFA pledges $1 million for Venezuela earthquake relief

The FIFA Foundation has announced that it will provide $1 million from its Humanitarian Fund to support relief efforts following the devastating earthquake that affected communities across Venezuela.

The funding will be used to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to those impacted by the disaster, support emergency response operations, and help affected communities begin recovery efforts.

The initiative is part of the FIFA Foundation's broader commitment to providing rapid assistance to communities affected by natural and man-made disasters through its Humanitarian Fund, which allows emergency funding to be mobilized quickly during crises.

"The people of Venezuela have the full solidarity of the global football family during this incredibly difficult time," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said. "Football has a unique ability to unite and inspire hope, especially in moments of crisis. Through the FIFA Foundation, we are proud to stand alongside the people of Venezuela and support humanitarian organisations and local partners working tirelessly to deliver urgent assistance to those most affected."

FIFA Foundation Executive Chairman Mauricio Macri also expressed support for those affected by the disaster.

"The thoughts of everyone at the FIFA Foundation are with all those who have been affected by this devastating earthquake," Macri said. "Football has an extraordinary ability to bring people together, especially in moments of great need. Through our Humanitarian Fund, we are committed to standing alongside the people of Venezuela and supporting outstanding organisations working tirelessly to provide emergency assistance to affected communities."

The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) has also been actively involved in relief efforts through the country's football community, highlighting the role of football organizations in supporting communities during times of crisis.

Since its establishment, the FIFA Foundation Humanitarian Fund has distributed millions of dollars and emergency aid kits to communities affected by major humanitarian emergencies around the world, reinforcing football's role in mobilizing assistance and solidarity beyond the sport itself.
