Finland to boost humanitarian, military support to Ukraine
Finland will increase its humanitarian aid to Ukraine to €22 million and deliver an additional 52 generators throughout February, Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk announced following a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Helsinki.
“The Government of Finland plans to additionally transfer 52 generators to Ukraine during February and increase humanitarian support to €22 million. We are grateful to Finland for this assistance and leadership in the Civil Protection Shelter Coalition,” Kondratiuk said.
She noted that Finland has extensive experience in civil protection and has already allocated €13.2 million to construct the first of 10,000 planned shelters in Ukraine. Kondratiuk emphasized the importance of expanding the initiative and encouraging other countries to participate in the humanitarian effort.
Prime Minister Orpo confirmed that Finland will continue providing military aid to Kyiv and support efforts to accelerate Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
The announcement follows recent deliveries of EU-provided generators to Ukraine’s capital. Last week, Kyiv received another shipment of 323 generators, some of which have been used to power heating substations in residential buildings. The first batch of 177 generators had already been installed to connect to individual heating substations where possible, helping to ensure energy access amid ongoing challenges.
