Fire at Kazakhstan oil refinery extinguished

Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that broke out at an oil refinery in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan, the regional emergency situations department said.

The fire engulfed two storage tanks, each with a capacity of 60 metric tons, while emergency responders determined that flames could spread to three additional tanks, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media. 

“Thanks to the immediate and coordinated actions of the firefighters, the three nearest tanks were saved,” the department said.

The fire covered an area of about 200 square metres. No further details about casualties were provided.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
