Fire engulfs 6,000-square-metre industrial site in Russia's Naberezhnye Chelny PHOTO / VIDEO

16 May 2026 11:08

A major fire broke out at an industrial facility in Naberezhnye Chelny on May 16, covering more than 6,000 square metres, local authorities said.

The city council reported that the blaze began at 02:46 local time at 20/2 Avtoremontnaya Street, in an industrial zone along Kazansky Prospekt near the dam of the Nizhnekamsk Hydroelectric Power Station, ASTRA reports.

Officials said polymer products were burning in an open area.

“The fire covers an area of over 6,000 square metres,” the city council said in a statement. “There are no fatalities or injuries.”

Emergency services deployed 70 personnel and 23 pieces of equipment to the scene, including 55 firefighters and 14 units from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, among them 10 fire tankers.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. An air raid alert had been issued in the city prior to the incident, according to local reports.

The affected site is believed to belong to Altyn-Polymer-NCH LLC, a company that produces plastic products. The surrounding industrial area also hosts facilities involved in industrial gas supply, metal fabrication, and electrical equipment manufacturing.

This is not the first fire at the location. In June 2022, a blaze at the same facility spread across approximately 1,000 square metres. Following that incident, the site manager was fined for violating fire safety regulations.
