Fire erupts at Russia's Belgorod university linked to UAV research after attack VIDEO

03 August 2026 08:47

A large fire broke out at Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU) in Russia's Belgorod region following a Ukrainian attack overnight on August 3, according to local media.

The university has previously disclosed research and development projects involving unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, Caliber.Az reports.

Footage published by local outlet Pepel Belgorod showed flames engulfing parts of the V.G. Shukhov Belgorod State Technological University. The publication noted that the university had been involved in the development and testing of UAV technologies.

According to the university's official Telegram channel, BSTU has been developing an automated UAV control system based on the Russian-made "Milandr" microprocessor. The university has said the technology is intended for civilian purposes, including monitoring power lines and heating networks, as well as conducting aerial photography.

Earlier this summer, the university also announced a summer programme for high school students focused on drone development. In a post on its Telegram channel, BSTU said participants in the "Digital Engineering of UAVs" course would study the fundamentals of designing unmanned systems.

Russian authorities had not reported any damage assessment or casualties at the university as of publication. Overnight, regional officials issued multiple warnings about the threat of Ukrainian drone attacks across the Belgorod region.
