First in Central Asia: Kazakhstan unveils AI project recognising Turkic languages

18 January 2026 13:54

Startup Cybernet AI has introduced the first ASR system in Central Asia, originally created for the specific characteristics of the Turkic language group.

According to the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the project was implemented with the support of Astana Hub and the ministry, using Microsoft GPU infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.

According to Tanat Uskembayev, Managing Director of Astana Hub, the new technology will enable Turkic-speaking countries to scale digital services and shift from being consumers of global solutions to developing their own competitive technologies.

The model covers Kazakh, Turkish, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Azerbaijani, and Tatar languages, and also correctly recognizes mixed Turkic–Russian speech, which is typical for real dialogues in business and government services.

The company’s CTO, Rashid Ismailov, noted that the development is fundamentally different from adapted English-language systems: “We created a model that understands the living forms of conversational language. This is a contribution to the formation of a local AI ecosystem and Kazakhstan’s technological sovereignty.”

The new ASR system is aimed at banks, telecom operators, contact centers, logistics companies, and government agencies. It is resistant to noise, accents, and language switching within a single sentence, providing high recognition accuracy across different sectors — from fintech to public services.
