FM Sybiha: Ukraine begins work on security guarantees
Ukraine has begun preparing future security guarantees with international partners, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said at a press conference in Odesa with his counterparts from Luxembourg and Belgium and a Dutch foreign ministry representative.
Sybiha stressed that Kyiv aims to secure quick progress on the guarantees, describing the process as complex and multi-layered, with military, political-diplomatic and legal dimensions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
“Following meetings in Washington, dedicated negotiating teams have been formed. If we speak about the military element – probably the most important and fundamental – the process has already begun at the level of national security advisers, with several meetings held to work out concrete details,” he said.
The minister underlined that the guarantees must be legally binding.
“This is essential and fundamental. For us, it represents a contribution to a future stable security architecture, not only in Europe but also globally, as European and Indo-Pacific security are interconnected,” he noted.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously said that the guarantees should resemble NATO’s Article 5 collective defence clause and include financial support for Ukraine’s armed forces.
