Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has declared that Armenia remains committed to a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership with Russia across all areas of cooperation.
The diplomat made the statement during extended-format talks in Yerevan with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that the two ministers had concluded a one-on-one meeting and transitioned to broader negotiations between Armenian and Russian delegations.
Mirzoyan noted that cooperation between the two foreign ministries continues actively, pointing out that the latest round of bilateral consultations took place on March 20 this year and were conducted in a constructive atmosphere.
A new two-year consultation plan between the foreign ministries has been agreed upon and is set to be signed today. The Armenian minister also reported positive momentum in the development of humanitarian cooperation.
Mirzoyan expressed hope that the upcoming "Days of Armenian Culture in Russia," scheduled for the end of this year, would further strengthen bilateral ties.
“The importance of visits and high-level events should not be underestimated. This year is full of them. The forthcoming visit of Valentina Matvienko will take place in the context of the 10th anniversary Interregional Forum, which will serve as another key element in our bilateral relations,” Mirzoyan added.
He also stated that Yerevan is keen to deepen cooperation through the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the interparliamentary commission, and other joint platforms.
Additionally, the Armenian Foreign Minister highlighted the significance of trade and economic cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as the free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran, which came into force on May 15. According to Mirzoyan, this agreement will help further realise the region’s trade potential.
