Former Gazprom executives among suspects in construction fraud
Russian authorities have launched an investigation into the embezzlement of more than 8 billion rubles ($100,880) linked to the construction of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Centre in Sochi.
Irina Volk, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, said on Telegram that 13 individuals are suspected of embezzlement and laundering of funds on an especially large scale. Among the suspects are a former member of the board of directors of PJSC Gazprom and a former deputy director general of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz LLC, as well as other managers from contracting and subsidiary organizations involved in the project.
Volk added that several individuals implicated in the case have been placed on an international wanted list, while the alleged organiser of the scheme has been arrested in absentia.
