Former Russian presidential candidate Boris Nadezhdin has been detained by police and taken to a Ministry of Internal Affairs station in the town of Dolgoprudny, near Moscow, according to a statement published on his Telegram channel.
The detention comes days after Russia's Ministry of Justice added Nadezhdin to its register of "foreign agents" on July 10.

Nadezhdin ran for the Russian presidency in 2023 as the candidate of the Civic Initiative party.
The reason for his detention has not been disclosed by the authorities.
