French FS Alsace missile frigate enters Red Sea
22 January 2024 17:07
The French Navy's FS Alsace missile frigate passed through the Suez Canal and joined the forces of the Western coalition in the Red Sea.
The frigate, which previously performed missions in the Eastern Mediterranean, is designed for anti-submarine and air defense, destruction of surface ships and strikes against enemy ground targets, Interfax reports.
It is equipped with 32 vertical launchers for anti-aircraft guided missiles. This is twice as many as the French frigate FS Languedoc, which is already in the Red Sea.
The campaign aims to "ensure maritime security and freedom of navigation".
