Two injured, including teen, in Russia's Cheboksary UAV attack updated / photo / video

26 November 2025 09:21

A large-scale drone strike which hit the city of Cheboksary in the Chuvash Republic left two civilians injured, including a teenager.

The information was confirmed to TASS by the head of the region, Oleg Nikolaev.

According to Nikolaev, two residential buildings sustained damage as a result of the UAV attack. Residents who had been temporarily evacuated from the affected structures have already begun returning to their homes.

“At this moment, the situation is fully under control, and there is no ongoing threat of further attacks. We will provide all necessary assistance to everyone who requires it,” the governor stated.

Authorities in Cheboksary have also introduced temporary traffic restrictions in response to the incident.

During the night of November 26, unidentified drones launched an attack on Cheboksary in the Chuvash Republic of the Russian Federation.

According to Russian Telegram channels, cited by Ukrainian media, the strike appears to have once again targeted a local military industrial facility.

According to the SHOT channel, the first explosion occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. Residents also heard loud blasts on the outskirts of Cheboksary and in the air above the nearby village of Lapsary, located roughly 10 kilometres from the city.

Russian sources stated that unknown drones were striking the region. Following the explosions, fire and dense smoke were observed in one of Cheboksary’s districts.

Shortly afterwards, the first videos of the drone attack on a local site began circulating on social media. Online sources claimed that the VNIIR military facility was hit.

The head of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolaev, publicly addressed the incident, confirming that an attack had taken place. He stated that there were no casualties, but the evacuation of local residents was underway. Nikolaev did not clarify which specific facility had been struck.

Cheboksary hosts the VNIIR-Progress plant, known for producing Kometa and Kometa-M satellite navigation receivers used in electronic warfare systems.

Kometa modules are integrated into various types of missiles (including Kalibr, Kh-69, Iskander-M, and Bandero) as well as UAVs (such as Garpia-A1, Orlan-10, Lastochka-M, Kartograf, Forpost, and Orion).

If the drones did indeed target this military facility, it would not be the first such incident. Earlier in the summer, regional governor Oleg Nikolaev reported that two drones had crashed on the premises of VNIIR JSC, temporarily halting production and igniting a fire at the site.
