General: Iran maintains wartime readiness despite ceasefire

29 April 2026 11:06

Iran’s military remains on high alert and continues to modernise its capabilities despite a lull in active hostilities, a senior army spokesman said.

Brigadier General Mohammad Akrami-Nia stated that since fighting subsided and a “so-called ceasefire or lull” took hold, Iran has maintained wartime-level preparedness due to what he described as a lack of trust in the United States and its adversaries.

“From the day the war paused, and a so-called ceasefire or lull was established on the battlefield, we — due to a lack of trust in the United States and our enemies — have continued, with the same strictness as during wartime, to update our tasks, replenish our target database, conduct exercises, and draw lessons from combat experience,” he said, according to IRNA.

Akrami-Nia emphasised that the army’s readiness has not diminished, highlighting ongoing monitoring and operational preparation.

“Monitoring, surveillance, and continuous preparedness continue without interruption. I assure you today, as well as our dear people, that if the enemy commits aggression again, it will face new tools, methods, and areas of action,” he said.

He added that Iran’s armed forces are prepared to confront future threats using both newly developed capabilities and lessons learned from recent conflicts.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran and its army, with full determination, using these modern means and the experience accumulated during wars lasting from 12 to 40 days, will undoubtedly firmly confront the enemy on new fronts,” he said.

Warning potential adversaries, the general said Iran is prepared to respond more forcefully to any renewed attack.

“Let them know that if they again commit aggression and threaten the security of this land, they will face an even more crushing response than in the past. We have many trump cards that we have not yet used. Thanks to the experience of the two previous wars, we have modern tools and methods of warfare at our disposal that allow us to deliver a tougher and more powerful response to the enemy,” he said.
