11 August 2026 10:19

Georgia deported 2,036 foreign nationals during the first six months of 2026, with Turkish citizens accounting for nearly a quarter of those removed from the country, according to official figures.

Between January 1 and June 30, Georgian authorities deported 2,036 foreigners. Turkish nationals topped the list with 485 deportations, followed by citizens of India with 227 and Turkmenistan with 179, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.

Russian nationals accounted for 145 deportations, while 89 Pakistani citizens were also removed, placing them among the five largest groups.

Deportations are carried out on the basis of court decisions and can result from overstaying permitted periods of residence, criminal offences, or administrative violations.

Georgia is also set to expand the grounds for deportation. Starting September 1, illegal employment and poor academic performance at universities will be added as grounds for removing foreign nationals from the country.
