Georgia partially closes land border with Russia due to weather

Cargo traffic on the road leading to Georgia’s border with Russia at the Upper Lars checkpoint has been suspended due to severe weather conditions.

The ban applies to vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers along the Gudauri (Post)–Kobi section of the international Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Lars highway. Other types of vehicles are still allowed to pass, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.

The Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Lars route, also known as the Military Georgian Road, is currently the only land connection between Georgia, Armenia, and Russia. 

The Kazbegi–Upper Lars checkpoint remains the only operational border crossing on Georgia’s land border with Russia.
