Georgia recovers ammunition linked to late ISIS operative
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) has announced the discovery of an arsenal connected to the group of Ahmed Chatayev, the ISIS operative killed in 2017.
Georgian media reported that the stockpile was found near the village of Lechuri in the Telavi municipality. Authorities recovered firearms, five magazines, 161 rounds of ammunition, three hand grenades, and a variety of explosives, including TNT, Caliber.Az reports.
“Operational information indicated that part of the group’s ammunition had been stored for several years at a location specified by our source following the group’s neutralization,” the SSG said in a statement.
The discovery recalls the November 21–22, 2017 special operation in Tbilisi at a residential building on Gabriel Salos Avenue. During the operation, Ahmed Chatayev, a member of ISIS, reportedly detonated himself. Two additional members of the criminal group were also killed, while special forces officer Vano Golashvili lost his life in the line of duty.
