Georgia’s opposition parties hold march in Tbilisi
Opposition parties in Georgia organized a march in Tbilisi to protest the results of the October 26 parliamentary elections.
Supporters of the opposition, who are challenging the election outcome, chanted slogans during the protest, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The procession, organized by the parties Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia, and Unity-National Movement, began at two separate locations in the city and is set to conclude at Heroes Square.
The demonstrators are calling for the annulment of the October 26 election results and the holding of new parliamentary elections.
On the spot, the participants of the rally have unfurled the banner - "Wake up Georgia", as well as the flags of Georgia, the European Union and Ukraine.
The parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 26. According to the Central Election Commission, the ruling "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" party received 53.93 per cent of the votes, winning the right to form the government independently.
Four opposition parties surpassed the five per cent threshold: "Coalition for Change" with 11 per cent, "United National Movement" with 10.16 per cent, "Strong Georgia" with 8.8 per cent and "Gakharia for Georgia" with 7.76 per cent. All opposition parties that entered Parliament have refused to recognise the election results, deeming them to be fraudulent. Georgian incumbent President Salome Zourabichvili has also rejected the election outcomes.
