Georgia voices strong support for Azerbaijan-Armenia peace deal

22 April 2025 12:36

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili has expressed Georgia’s support for the recent agreement reached on a peace accord between Azerbaijan and Armenia, reaffirming its commitment to contributing to regional peace and cooperation in the South Caucasus.

She made the remarks during a joint press briefing with the OSCE Secretary General, Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Botchorishvili underscored Georgia’s dedication to fostering stability in the region, stating, “I am pleased that last week, a trilateral meeting was held in Tbilisi among the deputy foreign ministers of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, and I hope that we can continue cooperating in this format for the prosperity of the region.”

The Georgian minister also emphasised the significance of regional cooperation, particularly through the implementation of joint projects aimed at supporting economic development. “Georgia attaches great importance to regional partnerships as a means to ensure long-term growth and stability,” she noted.

Georgia launched the first round of trilateral political consultations at the deputy foreign minister level with Armenia and Azerbaijan in Tbilisi. Tbilisi hosted closed-door political consultations involving deputy foreign ministers from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan — the first such meeting in a trilateral format. The discussions marked an attempt to deepen regional cooperation in the South Caucasus amid persistent geopolitical tensions.

According to a statement from Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks brought together Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Lasha Darsalia, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, and Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan, along with members of their respective delegations. The meeting opened with remarks from Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili. Bochorishvili highlighted the strategic importance of the South Caucasus region and its untapped potential for collaboration.
