Georgian FM highlights regional connectivity push after talks with Türkiye, Azerbaijan

09 June 2026 11:20

Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili has said that Georgia, Türkiye and Azerbaijan are advancing practical cooperation on regional connectivity projects, following the 10th trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting in Istanbul.

Speaking after the talks, Bochorishvili emphasised that the three countries are increasingly focused on implementing concrete initiatives rather than broad declarations, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media

“There are a number of ideas and projects that require our day-to-day work and interaction. It can be said that today’s meeting took place in a very positive and constructive spirit, and we had productive discussions on these issues,” she said.

She noted that the discussions covered ongoing and planned infrastructure and energy projects, which she described as central to strengthening the region’s role as a connectivity hub.

“This format of foreign ministers’ meetings is now being held for the tenth time. It is a good opportunity to assess our trilateral cooperation, which is of great importance both for our three states and for the wider region as a whole, as well as to discuss both successful projects already implemented and plans for the future, which will further strengthen the role of the three countries in promoting regional interconnectivity,” she noted.

Bochorishvili also said the meeting outcomes were reflected in the Istanbul Declaration, which outlines shared priorities and cooperation areas among the three countries.

“The Istanbul Declaration summarises our meeting today and addresses all the key issues we discussed,” she said, adding that support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity was reaffirmed by Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

In parallel with the trilateral format, Bochorishvili held bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Türkiye and Azerbaijan. During talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, she pointed to expanding high-level engagement and improving transport links.

“Recently, we have seen very intensive high-level communication with Azerbaijan. Rail links have also recently been resumed, which is another positive step in relations between our countries, particularly in terms of people-to-people contacts,” she said.

Bochorishvili said the discussions helped clarify future priorities for cooperation both regionally and internationally.
