Georgian Military Road closed to all vehicles due to severe weather conditions
Traffic on the Georgian Military Road, which was previously closed to trucks due to poor weather conditions, has now been fully banned for all vehicle types.
The announcement came from the North Ossetian Emergencies Ministry's Main Department on February 18, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Due to worsening weather conditions in Georgia and the inability to ensure safe vehicle passage, all types of vehicles are prohibited from travelling on the section from Vladikavkaz to the Lars settlement, in the direction of the exit from the Russian Federation. This restriction will remain in place until further notice,” the statement reads.
The North Ossetia Road traffic organization’s website indicates that over 1,200 trucks are currently waiting in the electronic queue at the Upper Lars checkpoint.
Earlier, it was reported that the road had been closed to trucks on February 16 evening due to deteriorating weather conditions on the Georgian side.
The Georgian Military Road is the only land route connecting Russia with Georgia and Armenia.
